This morning the Malaysian Election Commission announced nomination and polling day for the by-election that I will contest in Permatang Pauh. I look forward to the campaign period to meet with voters in my home constituency. I invite all Malaysians to join me in this historic campaign to bring forth a New Dawn for Malaysia as we work together to build a more peaceful and prosperous nation.
At the same time we would reiterate our longstanding concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. To this date, the evidence of phantom voters and ballot box stuffing has yet to be addressed by the Election Commission. The poor handling of the use of indelible ink in the General Elections gives all Malaysians, particularly those in Permatang Pauh, reason to be concerned about the conduct of polling this month. I urge the Election Commission to take this opportunity to restore some credibility to its reputation by fulfilling its constitutional mandate to ensure that voting is fair and unbiased. Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be charged for sodomy when he turns up at the Jalan Duta sessions courts tomorrow after police took a civil approach today and served him with a subpoena to appear in court. In a similar sequence of events 10 years ago, balaclava-clad elite policemen arrested him and detained him under the Internal Security Act before preferring charges.
His court appearance will come a day after the Election Commission decided that the Permatang Pauh by-election will be held on Aug 26 which Anwar said he will contest.
A police team led by DSP Jude Pereira served the subpoena just a little after noon today when they turned up at his Bukit Segambut house, which is incidentally near the Jalan Duta courts.
Anwar is scheduled to hold a press conference later at 3pm and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) officials said it could be related to a sodomy charge. He is currently speaking to his lawyers, according to lawyer Sankara Nair. Read the rest of this entry »

Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, the former aide of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim who claimed he was sexually assaulted by his boss, has said that, despite his so-called ‘coffee boy’ status, he had accompanied Datuk Seri Anwar on four overseas trips, including two to Singapore.
In a blog post, Saiful also claimed to have helped arrange secret meetings in a luxury condominium unit between Anwar and government politicians who wanted to defect to the opposition.
The claims are sure to rile Anwar and the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), as they have portrayed him as a volunteer ‘coffee boy’ who is being manipulated by Umno leaders.
Saiful, 23, is in hiding after claiming on June 28 that Mr Anwar had sodomised him.
The PKR, which is unofficially led by Anwar, has dismissed Saiful’s charges. Some party officials have also disparaged his role in the party, saying that he was a university dropout who worked as a part-time volunteer, mostly driving Anwar around and making him coffee.

Pusrawi Hospital Statement
Pusrawi Hospital today confirmed that a preliminary examination was conducted on 23-year-old Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan who had accused Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of sodomising him, but insisted that it was not a conclusive medical report.
“Dr Muhammad Osman Abdul Hamid is only a general practitioner at the emergency clinic at Pusrawi Hospital and he’s not a specialist,” said Pusrawi general manager Wan Mahmood Wan Yaacob.
He said the doctor had advised Saiful to seek treatment with a specialist at the government hospital.
“There was no examination done on his sodomy allegation,” he told a press conference here this afternoon.

Raja Petra in his blog Malaysia Today has published an article about a doctor’s report from Hospital Pusrawi that has conducted an examination on Saiful. The report said that there is no evidence Saiful has been sodomised.
Below is the article Doctor on the run: police want him to fabricate evidence against Anwar written by Raja Petra and a copy of Dr Mohamed Osman Abdul Hamid from the Hospital Pusrawi medical report on Saiful Bukhari.
On 21 July 2008, I published an article in this same column called HOW, YET AGAIN, THEY ARE TRYING TO FABRICATE EVIDENCE AGAINST ANWAR.
In that article I mentioned as follows:
You see, they asked a certain doctor from a certain hospital to conduct an examination on Saiful. The doctor did so and he came out with a report that said there is no evidence Anwar had ever penetrated or sodomised the young man. The police then picked up the doctor and detained him for three days. As much as they tried to force him to change his report to implicate Anwar he refused to do so.
